Let me just say that I fell in love with Ryann from the first sentence: All men are assholes. Ryann is my kinda girl; she's smart, witty, sarcastic and has a sharp tongue. When Ryann first meets Quinn at the club where she waitresses, their encounter is filled with Quinn's insulting compliments and Ryann's sarcastic retorts. What a great way to start a book. Ryann is the type of character who will give you the middle finger verbally and figuratively. I've made it no secret that I have little patience for heroines that are either too weak and whiny or too strong and independent. I like a heroine that is balanced and Ryann delivers. I appreciate a character that is self-reliant but is not afraid to ask for help.Eve of Samhain pulled me in and did not let me go. Ryann's humor and witty retorts had me giggling throughout the book. I loved that the language/slang used flowed naturally; it did not feel forced. Throughout the book, Ryann constantly referred to her privates as "kitty" and once called it a "hoo-hah". That definitely made me laugh because I use the term "hoo hah" all the time. Quinn and Ryann's relationship developed naturally. Because of Quinn's curse, he could not have physical contact with Ryann. After a bumpy start, their relationship developed into a nice friendship that took its natural course and became more.Final verdict: Eve of Samhain is a great debut novel. I see the potential for it to become a series thanks to great supporting characters,Ryann's roommates Jessica and Martha. We were teased with bits of information about Martha's past. There is definitely more there that I want to learn. I would have liked to learn more about why the demon was after Ryann. This book had all the elements: Celtic mythology, danger and suspense, romance, humor and sexual tension. I finished the book satisfied and wanting more.
