I went into reading Eternal Kiss of Darkness with hesitation. I read First Drop of Crimson a week ago and it didn't do anything for me. It lacked the chemistry and humor that I've come to expect from Jeaniene Frost. I didn't believe in Spade and Denise's romance. Also I was never a fan of Mencheres. We saw glimpses of his personality in the Night Huntress books but for the most part, I found him boring and stale. With that being said, I didn't think he'd be able to carry an entire book. Boy was I wrong!EKOD has everything that makes the Night Huntress series so great! There's great chemistry between Mencheres and Kira. Kira reminds me of Cat in a lot of ways. Kira is strong-willed, independent, and smart. Her snarky humor provided many funny moments throughout the book. She went toe-to-toe with Mencheres without backing down. She was never intimidated by him even when she was a prisoner in his house. And I loved the way she protected Mencheres like a mama bear protecting her cub. Mencheres was a great surprise. He is still his dark, brooding, closed-off self. But he is also sexy. I didn't think there was a way for him to be sexy but Jeaniene Frost found a way. Ceiling sex anyone? Kira is the perfect match for Mencheres. He is "old as dirt" and is used to thinking for everyone but Kira isn't having it. She stands up to the four thousand year old vampire and never wavers.Our favorite PNR couple (Bones and Cat) makes an appearance and I did not like them at all. Mencheres contacts them for help and they come to his aid. But instead of offering support once they see him, they lash at him and question his innocence. Yes, Mencheres has given them cause to not trust him but they don't even contemplate that he could be innocent. That really pissed me off and I loved how Kira comes to Mencheres' defense again. Not only do we get Cat and Bones but we also get Vlad! He needs his own book soon! Vlad is hilarious and supportive. He doesn't hesitate to aid his friend no matter how ridiculous or dangerous the situation is.Flutter factor:Mencheres and Kira are no Cat and Bones but they are pretty close. Kira is the woman! I loved that she is so spunky! Mencheres' sexiness was an unexpected delight. My opinion of him completely changed after reading this book. Eternal Kiss of Darkness is a fantastic book that I could not put down. I started reading the book because my Kindle was charging. I'd decided to read a couple of chapters and then go back to the book I was previously reading on my Kindle. It didn't happen. Once I finished the first chapter, I could not put it down. EKOD is a definite must read. Frost is back on her game with this one! You will not be disappointed.
