Breeding Cycle starts off hot and steamy. The beginning of the book starts off with Sarina dreaming about having sex with her two sexy guards. At first I couldn't determine if it was a dream or if what was happening was real and had to read that scene a second time to be sure. Sarina is a lykaen princess and she's in heat. Her father doesn't want her having sex and possibly getting pregnant by someone who isn't worthy so he sends her off to his cabin, where she is isolated until her breeding cycle ends. Vane, Alpha of the Kategan pack, lives in a cabin not too far away from where Sarina is holed up. During a walk, he stumbles upon Sarina doing selfy-selfy time. He scents her need and is burning to have her. Vane offers to help Sarina during her breeding cycle but she can't have intercourse with him due to the possibility that she will become pregnant. Vane is determined to make Sarina his and knows that the only way to do so is to take her virginity. If you are looking for a steamy read, Breeding Cycle definitely delivers with the sexy time. The majority of the novella deals with Vane easing Sarina's ache in very creative ways without actually having intercourse. The story worked best for me when it was Vane and Sarina one-on-one, getting it on. Vane wants to make Sarina his and does his best to convince her that they are meant to be. Sarina is stubborn and is not easy to convince. She doesn't want to defy her father but Vane is a persistent Alpha. The story kind of fell apart for me when Sarina was back in her father's clutches. She became very immature and child-like in her behavior. When she was with Vane, she was all woman in her attitude and her actions. But back at her father's house and around her best friend, Alison, the dialog seemed childish and it grated on my nerves. I know when you're around your friends, you talk in a way that is reserved for them but Sarina went from a 21 year old woman who found her mate to a 13 year old girl who just experienced her first crush. Also, it was never clear what Sarina's father motives were. Why was he treating his only child as if she was his property to do whatever he wanted? I felt like his character was bad just to be the big bad in the story and he wasn't fully fleshed out.I enjoyed the first half of Breeding Cycle but the second half fell flat. The climax was predictable and for me, didn't add anything to the story. I would have been more than satisfied without the confrontation between Sarina's dad and the Kategan pack. I liked the introduction of Vane's siblings and they added a fresh voice to the story (despite Vane's sister, Vera, annoying Twilight references that came out of the blue). There were some typographical errors and grammatical errors that slowed down my reading. I think with good editing and fleshing out some plot points and characters more, it has potential to be a great read.C-
