I haven't read many Highlander books and didn't know what to expect when I started reading In Bed With a Highlander. This book was such a pleasant surprised and I can't wait to read the next book in the series.Mairin is the illegitimate daughter of the king. Her dowry is highly sought after and for her safety, she has been hiding out in an abbey. Rutheless laird, Duncan Cameron, tracks Mairin down and has his men kidnap her. Duncan Cameron is violent, ruthless and brutal. He is determined to make Mairin his bride. Mairin manages to escape and is rescued Ewan's brother and taken to the McCabe land. The answer to both Ewan's and Mairin's problem is for them to marry. Marriage to secure Mairin's dowry and bring wealth to the McCabe clan and to protect from Cameron.In Bed with a Highlander was a fantastic read from start to finish. Mairin is a heroine with spunk. She didn't wallow in her circumstances and wasn't afraid to take control. I loved Mairin from the beginning. She was not a whiny female character and I loved that. Ewan is a sexy Alpha male who wants to be able to provide for his clan. Despite Mairin's small size, he realizes that she is stronger and more resilient than he gives her credit for. And that she is a great addition to the McCabe Clan.Mairin's feistiness did land her in some situations that she had to be rescued from. At first it was cute but after a while, it kind of got on my nerves. It got old real fast and her refusal to allow a guard accompany her around the grounds became annoying. Despite those minor issues, I enjoyed Mairin's character a lot.Crispen, Ewan's son, is the cutest kid ever. The way he stood up and protected Mairin against his uncles was adorable. I can't say enough about how much I enjoyed this book. Every character was enjoyable. We are introduced to Ewan's brothers, Alaric and Caelen, who ome and alpha as Ewan. I am definitely looking forward to their books. In Bed with a Highlander is a great read from start to finish. You can expect a sexy story with any Maya Banks book and she definitely delivered. I loved how Mairin criticized Ewan's kissing and loving skills in the beginning even though Mairin went into her marriage a virgin. Ewan loved proving her wrong. The romance develops slowly during the story. Because of the circumstances behind their marriage, I didn't expect there to be declarations of love right away. I loved how the trust and love grew slowly. It wasn't rushed.In Bed with a Highlander was a page turner that I could not put down. I enjoyed the story from start to finish. I can't wait for Alaric's book. This series is a must read.
