This series caught my eye when I was on Amazon a few months ago, looking for something new to read. When Border's was having it's Going Out Of Business sale I used the opportunity to buy series that I haven't read, but wanted to. The Wing Slayer Hunter series was one of them.Blood Magic was a good read. I like the premise of witch hunters who were once vowed to protect witches now fear them and some who go rogue, hunt and kill them for their blood. Darcy is a witch and doesn't know of her powers or that she is a witch until she is attacked by rogue witch hunters. Axel, a witch hunter, saves Darcy from the attack. He doesn't do it for altruistic purposes. Axel's little sister has been cursed with the death mark and only an earth witch can remove the mark. In the beginning, Darcy was in denial but as she reflects on her childhood and her unusual abilities and behavior, she realizes that what Axel is telling her is true. They work together to try and save Hannah and to prevent the killing of more witches. Neither trusts the other but they must work together.Blood Magic didn't wow me but it was interesting enough to keep me reading. Axel was an ordinary hero. Nothing stood out to me. If it weren't his interaction with Darcy, he'd easily fade into the background. Darcy is a strong, believable heroine. I'm glad that she didn't stay too long in the land of denial regarding her heritage. But at times she was annoying. I enjoyed the supporting characters- Axel's mom, sister and the other Wing Slayer Hunters. I will definitely continue reading the series. With this being the first book of the series, there was a lot of pages spent on world-building and info dumping. Now that most of the background info has been established, I hope that giving forward the story will focus more on the plot.Blood Magic is a nice start to a new series. I'm definitely looking forward to reading more.C-
