**minor spoilers if you haven’t read book 1, Edge of Sight**My thoughts:Shiver of Fear is the second book in the Guardian Angelinos series. We were introduced to Marc in book 1. He’s Zach and Vivi’s cousin and a former FBI agent now working with his cousins. As one of the Guardian Angelinos first assignment, Marc is told to go to Ireland and get widowed Devyn Sterling to leave the country. He’s not given more information or directive. Marc doesn’t know what he is up against once he arrives in Belfast. Devyn is determined to learn about her past. Her life has been turned upside since the murder of her husband. She has always felt incomplete even though she grew up in a life of privilege. She wants to know what she is made of and thinks that she’ll get her answers if she finds her birth mother.I’m going to start by saying that I was not impressed by Devyn from the beginning. She was threatened by a stranger when she was lurking around her birth mother’s home and then she gets to Ireland and gets in the car of a handsome stranger. What sense does that make? Devyn is tied to some dangerous people so her being so trusting of Marc from the jump was stupid in my opinion. Their relationship blossoms into a romance as Marc helps Devyn track down her birth mother and find some answers. Throughout the book, Devyn describes herself as “impulsive” but I would say that she’s hard-headed and stupid. She fought Marc every step of the way when he would try to take control. He is a former FBI agent and knows best but all Devyn cares about is getting to her birth mother, regardless of the danger that surrounded her.Marc has been scorned by a “perfect woman” before and is reluctant to give in to his attraction to Devyn. He realizes that there’s more to Devyn than meets the eye. It was hard for me to buy into the romance because Devyn was so frustrating! I felt that she was too whiney and insecure and not the type of woman Marc needed.I enjoyed the intrigue and suspense. I truly did not know who was the good guy or the bad guy while reading the story. Roxanne St.Claire truly knows how to keep you on the edge of your seat. For me, the intrigue was the best and strongest aspect of this book. I thought the romance was weak but that’s only because I did not like Devyn’s character.
