I started reading Any Man of Mine with a different idea of how the story would unfold than what actually happened. First, I thought the story would start with Sam and Autumn meeting in Vegas. Boy was I wrong. I guess I should pay more attention to the blurb. Sam and Autumn got married in Vegas two years ago. In the light of day, Sam realized his mistake and left Autumn alone in a Vegas hotel room nursing a hangover and a broken heart. This is the one time where the motto “What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas” does not apply to Autumn. Her little souvenir from her short marriage to Sam was a bun in the oven. Two years later, Autumn is the wedding planner for one of Sam’s teammates. Autumn and Sam’s relationship is tenuous at best. Because they have a child together, Autumn is making an effort not to pick fights with Sam.Any Man of Mine is a cute story about second chances. While reading the story, it found me bouncing back and forth between being on Autumn’s side and being on Sam’s side. Sam didn’t have the best father as a role model on how to be a dad but he’s trying his hardest to be a good dad to his son, Connor. I like that Autumn made a concerted effort not to bash Sam or pick fights with him especially since Sam’s lifestyle is not kid-friendly.Any Man of Mine is the second story I’ve read in the Chinooks Hockey Team series. It didn’t have as much heat and humor as the previous book, Nothing But Trouble, but I enjoyed it nonetheless. I liked that the conflict wasn’t drawn out and I thought that Sam and Autumn’s relationship was portrayed realistically. I would definitely read future books in this series.
