Finding romance, one book at a time.

Rogue Rider

Rogue Rider - Larissa Ione I am a huge fan of Larissa Ione and I absolutely love the Lord of Deliverance series. When Reseph became Pestilence in book 1, I thought, there's no way to redeem him. There is absolutely no way. I should have never doubted Larissa Ione's ability to take a totally unlikable character and have me rooting for him from start to finish.Rogue Rider is the fourth and final book of the Lord of Deliverance series and it ends the series with a bang. Reseph's seal broke and he became Pestilence in Eternal Rider. With each book, Pestilence became more evil and more unlikable. It didn't take long for me to want him gone. Forget redemption. Kill him! At the end of Lethal Rider, Than stabs Pestilence with Deliverance and thinks that he has killed him. But of course, that did not happen. Reaver, the Horsemen's Watcher, erases Reseph's memory and sends him to the human world where Reseph is found by Jillian.I'm still thinking, how am I going to like Reseph knowing what he did when he was Pestilence? We get to see the real Reseph, the Reseph that we only had a peak at before his seal broke. Reseph is flirty, funny and sexy. The first half of Rogue Rider is focused mainly on Reseph and Jillian's developing romance. Reseph is trying to figure out who he is and Jillian is trying hard to not fall for him. Of course they are both attracted to each other and you can only resist smoking hot chemistry for so long. Seeing Reseph as a carefree, normal man made you forget the atrocities he committed as Pestilence. And made it easier to separate the two. Pestilence did those things. Not Reseph. It also helped that The Horsemen and their spouses were total buttheads and made me feel sorry for Reseph even more. For nearly three books, Ares, Limos and Than were holding onto hope that they could bring their brother back. The moment they find out he's alive and that Reseph, not Pestilence, is alive, they totally turn their back on him. It's bad enough that Reseph was literally beating himself up when he remembered everything that Pestilence did. But for his family to pretty much ostracize him was hurtful. I wanted to kick some Horsemen ass. I did not agree with their reasoning for how they treated Reseph. If they were really that afraid of him, why not kill him or find some way to destroy him? Instead, they keep him prisoner. Thankfully Jillian is there to soothe Reseph and to remind him that he's not the monster that he thinks he is.There isn't as much action in Rogue Rider as the previous 3 books. The Apocalypse has been avoided. Pestilence is gone. Good has won. Rogue Rider is more about starting over. There is some big reveals in Rogue Rider - one that I guess correctly after reading Letha Rider. Woot! The book doesn't end with rainbows and unicorns but the world is slowly healing as well as the Horsemen.Rogue Rider was less intense than the previous books. Rogue Rider wrapped up what has been building since book 1.I am so excited that Reaver and Harvester will have their own book. I knew there was more than met the eye with those two. I've liked Reaver since the Demonica series. I highly recommend this series. Rogue Rider was a nice way to end the series.
